Boris is banned from certain activities

Boris Romanov was engaged in civil and political activism in St. Petersburg. He created the official VK group for “Zhivaja biblioteka” (Living Library) – a civil initiative in St. Petersburg and one of the branches of the international project “Human Library”. Boris also ran for a seat in the city’s Legislative Assembly and was the admin of “Svetlanovskoye neighbours” – a VK group of Svetlanovskoye, a municipality in Vyborgsky District. It was his publication in “neighbours” that triggered the criminal investigation.
About the criminal case
What is Boris charged with?
On the morning of May 11, 2022, law enforcement officers came to search the apartment of the civil activist Boris Romanov. On the evening of that day, the Vyborg District Court charged Boris under article 207.3, part 2, sub-paragraph d of the RF Criminal Code (“dissemination of false information about the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation motivated by hatred”) and sent him to Detention Center 6 (on May 27, he was transferred to the Kresty prison). He is now facing up to 10 years in jail.

Unlike other people charged under this article, Boris didn’t even publish anti-war posts on social media. What triggered his arrest was a video posted in the “Svetlanovskoye neighbours” group, in which a man resembling Boris congratulated the members of the municipal council on “the ending of the war” following the talks in Istanbul. The video has already been deleted from the group. The investigators also claim that they found “extremist materials” in Boris Romanov’s apartment.

Boris spent more than two months in a pre-trial detention center. Thanks to public support and the work of lawyers, the July 28 trial changed the arrest to a ban on certain activities. But the criminal case continues.

"Memorial"* recognized Boris as a political prisoner.
