About the criminal case
What is Yevgeny charged with?
Information about the criminal case against Yevgeny appeared on April 7, 2022. The fact that the tenth-grader is being prosecuted was written about by Member of the Municipal Council Svetlana Kaverzina. What triggered the criminal investigation was a comment left by Yevgeny Fokin under a post in the telegram channel of the coalition “Novosibirsk 2020”.

Later it turned out that Yevgeny reposted someone else’s text in the comment section of the coalition chat. This was enough for the teenager to become involved in a criminal investigation under article 207.3, part 1 (“dissemination of false information about the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation”). Mr. Fokin is unable to share the details of his case as he has signed a non-disclosure statement.
Despite the criminal case Yevgeny keeps up his activism. Over the past two years the teenager has written over 150 complaints to local authorities and the Office of the Attorney General requesting to solve various problems: repair roads and public transport, remove banners from historic buildings. In May 2022, Mr. Fokin succeeded in making the administration remove the Z-banner in the city center.

At the moment the teenager is awaiting trial under a written obligation not to leave his place of residence. Yevgeny’s friends and family are hopeful that the law enforcement would not ask for the maximum penalty for him out of concern for their own reputation.
