Viktoria is to stay at the detention facility until September

Viktoria has been working as an expert in marketing and did not consider herself an activist. She would go to pro-Navalny rallies and anti-war marches because she didn’t want to put up with injustice. Her case indicates that the political system is determined to punish people not just for their actions, but for their standpoints too.

What is Viktoria being accused of?

On May 6th early in the morning law enforcement officials raided the apartment of 28-year-old Petersburger Viktoria Petrova. “E” Center members and SOBR tactical unit searched her rented place, seized the electronic devices and posters in support of Ukraine. That same day she was taken into custody by the Kalininsky district court of St. Petersburg.

Vika was neither a civic activist nor public figure. Her only “crime” was making an anti-war post on VKontakte in March this year which could have been seen only by a couple hundred of her friends on there at best. For that post Vika is now facing up to 10 years in prison under the Article 207.3 (“Public dissemination of deliberately false information about the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation”), paragraph “e” (“motivated by hatred”).
On 8th of June the St. Petersburg City Court declined the appeal. Vika has to stay in the detention facility until the end of June. Vika is supported by her parents and a few acquaintances. You can send them money for inmate care packages. You can also sign a petition demanding the case against Viktoria to be dropped.

"Memorial"* recognized Petrova as a political prisoner.
