The activist is under house arrest until November
Vladimir Zavyalov is a businessman from Smolensk arrested for replacing price tags in a supermarket. He faces up to 10 years in prison under part 2 of Article 207.3, paragraph "d": spreading fakes about the Russian army motivated by hatred.
ABOUT THE CRIMINAL CASE
What is Vladimir being tried for?
On the evening of April 4, Vladimir replaced the price tags in the supermarket with antiwar leaflets, in which the prosecution saw false information about the actions of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in Ukraine. The very next day he was detained and then put under house arrest a couple of days later. On May 18, part 2 of article 207.3 was imputed. Under 207.3.2, Mr. Zavyalov faces up to 10 years in prison. The first trial was scheduled to take place on May 30.

Since his arrest, Vladimir cannot contact the media, he is awaiting a court decision in isolation from the outside world. With the sentence getting harsher, while under house arrest, Vladimir's health began to decline. Vladimir fears for the future of his parents, wife and two young children: his trucking business was one of the main sources of family income.
In the past, Vladimir was not engaged in civic activism: he did not go to rallies, did not belong to social movements. So the searches and arrest shocked his family and friends. According to Vladimir's brother, Oleg Zavyalov, he did not warn anyone about his action. Vladimir's relatives have already collected about 80 thousand rubles, but this money is not enough to pay for a lawyer. Now Mr.Zavyalov's family is forced to spend their savings to try and achieve a lenient sentence, as well as provide for two minor children.

Four court hearings have already been held in the Mr.Zavyalov case. During the last trial, which took place on July 13, the investigation interrogated the sellers of the store where the price tags were found. They no longer remember what was written on them. Zavyalov's lawyer announced violations in the examination, which found traces of "hostility and hatred" in the leaflets. The court rejected his request.

"Memorial"* recognized Mr.Zavyalov as a political prisoner.
